You’re zealous for me
I’m cold towards you
Just a dwindling flame
Where once was a fire
Rekindle my heart
Let the flame not go out
I wish to follow you
But I fear I can’t walk
Carry me in your bosom
I am but a lamb
My Strength, my Shield
Encompass me
Have mercy please
Give me the grace
To enjoy and glorify you
Now and forevermore
My heart
is frequently in need of rekindling. Thankfully,
as it says in Psalm 23:3: “He restores
my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.” I began writing this
during a time when I felt myself growing cold towards the Lord. I chose the
title, Zealous, as I pondered on God's zeal for his people.
Praise God for his goodness and grace. He is faithful; we are not. “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”(Ephesians 2:8-9.) By grace we are
carried. By grace we persevere. Glory be to the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
"Listen to
me, O house of Jacob, all the remnant of the house of Israel, who have been borne by me from before your birth, carried from the womb; even to your old age I am he, and
to gray hairs I will carry you. I
have made, and I will bear; I will
carry and will save. Isaiah 46:3-4
Sing
aloud, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel! Rejoice and exult with all
your heart, O daughter of Jerusalem! The Lord has taken away the judgments against you; he has cleared away your enemies. The King of Israel, the Lord, is in your midst; you shall never again fear evil. On that day it shall be said to Jerusalem: “Fear not, O Zion; let not your hands grow weak. The Lord your
God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you
with gladness; he will quiet you by
his love; he will exult over you
with loud singing. Zephaniah 3:14-17.
