I was quite sure have to skip a blog post this week due to my schedule and
having a touch of writers block. But God provided. I was unexpectedly able to write this poem quite quickly. Sometimes poetry just flows
out of me. Thankfully, this was one of those times. I am amazed at how God has
helped me keep this blog going with providences that freed up my schedule
several times when I overbooked myself, overcoming my sin and making a way to
escape the temptations that come with blogging, and giving me all I need to be
able to write.
This poem was written as I thought upon 2 Corinthians 5:7, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
My eyes see pleasures and comforts abundant
Faith sees but a passing temporal age-
I’ll not worship gifts; true pleasure’s in him
My eyes see my failures again and again
The tempter claims I’m a
waterless well
Faith sees my Jesus who died for my sins
My eyes see my works. My flesh strives to brag
Faith sees the Vine and heeds not a corpse
In him alone shall I boast. My life. My all.
My eyes see my magnificent weakness
I stop to consider: How, oh how will I go on?
Faith sees his strength perfected in me
My eyes see waters, choppy and cold
Wavering, I wonder: Could I be all alone?
Faith sees the hand that will
never let go
My eyes see the fire; I fear I'll be burned
Faith sees the dross melt away-
Those whom he loves, their gold he
refines
My eyes see no hope and sorrows
abundant
Faith sees but a passing temporal
age-
My hope is in him; soon my eyes
will glory behold
