This poem is
written as a prayer and is a reflection of the hope we have in God through Christ Jesus,
who died for us, bearing our sins in his body, and rising again on the third day.
It includes several references to Scripture, some of which are listed following
the poem. It also includes a line from
the Common Doxology, (the third line from the bottom.) By God’s grace, I
am learning little by little to take no thought for tomorrow (Matthew 6: 34.)
His sword cuts away at the worry and idolatry that heart is prone
to.
O LORD may I
worship you in all that I do
No other
shall rule, you alone are I AM
You shatter my
idols; your grace covers me
No fear of
the future shall my heart ensnare
I laugh at
the days to come
I once was a
child of wrath
I’m held fast
by your beautiful hands-
Hands that wonderfully
formed me in the womb
And bled for
me at Calvary
You were a
curse on the cross for this poor sinner
Your blood cleansed
my soul- I cry Abba Father
I know not
what lies ahead in my pilgrimage
Or the
manner of death I’ll die
Perhaps you’ll
return while I sojourn in the world
One thing I
know- I’ve tasted and seen- You are good
You are my
portion. My hunger is filled
In the heavenlies
I’m seated with my Lord
Few and evil
have been my days thus far
But glorious
as I walk with you, O LORD
Shall I
despise the fire that melts off dross?
Nay LORD, bring
me forth as gold
The weight
of eternal glory fills my soul
As the grass
withers, soon I’ll be home
Praise God
from whom all blessings flow
In sunshine
and rain, my soul shall praise you
I’m redeemed
by the blood of the Lamb
And
Jacob said to Pharaoh, “The days of the years of my sojourning are 130 years.
Few and evil have been the days of the years of my life, and they have not
attained to the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of
their sojourning.” Genesis 47:9
For
this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory
beyond all comparison, 2 Corinthians 4:17
For I
consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing
with the glory that is to be revealed to us. Romans
8:18
Strength
and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come.
Proverbs 31:25
For you
did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have
received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba!
Father!” Romans 8:15
Christ
redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is
written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree” Galatians 3:13
Oh,
taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! Psalm 34:8
If then
you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where
Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who
is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in
glory. Colossians 3:1-4
