Your last breath escapes you, a vapor in the air
Your eyes are closed, and hands grow cold
Sobs overflow, I’ll miss you
In a wooden box you lie, slumbering peacefully
Finality grips me, I’d hoped you’d awaken
Though I knew it couldn’t be
Choking back sorrow, I whisper goodbye
Silently pleading, carry me Lord
This weariness is heavy
Joy breaks in my heart, shining through the pain
You finished the course with victory!
You’re with our Savior now
Oh to see His glorious face! Wondrous it must be!
Suddenly homesick, the world grows dimmer
Yet onward I must trod
Goodbye for now my dear one, I’ll miss you terribly
Someday by His return, or failure of this tent
There’ll be reunion in the sky
